National joinery firm gets big lift from a Hird mini crane
A national joinery and kitchen manufacturer has praised mini crane hire specialist Hird for its speedy response in supplying a Valla mini crane to help repair a large machine at one of its factories.
The maintenance team at one of the firm’s production sites in East Yorkshire called in Hird after the machine broke down and a 3.5 tonne roller drum had to be lifted to carry out a repair.
Within hours of the call, a Hird team was on site, with a Valla 180E pick and carry electric mini crane, ready to get to work.
One of the client’s maintenance managers said: “The Hird team were very responsive, very professional and the mini crane they supplied was perfect for the job that needed to be done.
“We had set a target of getting the repair made and the press back in action over a weekend, and with Hird’s help, that’s what we achieved. It was a good bit of teamwork.”
The emergency response was overseen by Hird mini crane sales and after sales manager Carl Cooper.
He said: “We got the call on Thursday evening and I was on site first thing in the morning. By lunchtime the mini crane was in place, with a mini rane operator and rigger, and a method statement and risk assessment prepared.
“The Valla 180E pick and carry electric mini crane is ideal for working in factories. It is a compact crane that can be easily moved in confined spaces and packs a punch in terms of lifting power.
“The shaft on the heated roller drum needed to be replaced, so the drum had to be lifted out of the press.
“The repair was completed and the drum back in place by Sunday morning, and we had cleared the site by early Sunday afternoon, allowing production to resume.
“One of the big benefits of using mini cranes in this way is the speed with which they can be mobilised, getting to a worksite and get the job done. The support we could provide in this case is a perfect example of that.”
The Valla 180E is one of the larger machines in the Hird mini crane hire fleet. It has a maximum lift capacity of 18 tonnes and is ideal for working in clean industrial environments, where fume-free operation is required.
