Maeda mini cranes lift eyes at two major London buildings

Maeda mini cranes lift eyes at two major London buildings

One location is the home of towering up and unders, the other of London’s towering sky scrapers – and both have been making good use of Maeda mini crane lifting power delivered by Hird Group.

Building contractors are continuing to turn to Hird for mini crane hire in the capital to build and continue to develop some of the UK’s most iconic structures.

At Twickenham Stadium, the home of England Rugby, in West London, a Maeda MC815 spider crane, the largest in the Japanese manufacturer’s fleet, has been used to lift steel sections.

Ideal mini crane for construction

The £54 million extension of the East Stand has been designed to create six new floors of hospitality space totalling 11,600 square feet.

Hird’s Maeda MC815 tracked spider crane is ideal for construction-related lifts, especially where space is confined. The mini crane has a maximum safe working load of 8 tonnes, and a maximum tip point of 18.8m.

In the centre of capital, one of Maeda’s smaller mini cranes, the MC305, is being used to install glass panels at 22 Bishopsgate in the City of London, now being marketed as simply Twenty-Two.

The building – 913 feet high, with 62 floors – is due to be completed in 2019.

It is one of a cluster of skyscrapers that include 30 St Mary Axe, also known as The Gerkin, 122 Leadenhall Street, known as the Cheesegrater, and Tower 42, once known as the NatWest Tower, and once the tallest building in the UK, now towered over itself.

Maeda spider crane with hefty lifting power

The Maeda MC305 spider crane hired from Hird has a hefty maximum lifting capacity of 2.98 tonnes yet is just 1208mm wide with a stowed height of just 1695mm, and a weight of just 3.9 tonnes.
This makes it ideal for operating in busy construction environments, where low ground loading is required, as the mini crane is used to lift and install glazing panels.

The crane can be transported in construction lifts and can be quickly set and reset for lifting operations.

Excellent safety features, including a programmable load moment limiter and outrigger interlocking system, plus a powerful two-speed winch and remote control for precision lifting in all environments.
