Hird has expanded its excellent range of aerial booms by purchasing five new Hinowa spider lifts – recognised for being among the safest, most advanced yet easiest-to-use machines available.

The new spider booms cover three different models – the Hinowa 14.75 Gold Lift IIIS, Hinowa 17.75 Light Lift IIIS and Hinowa 23.12 Light Lift IIIS – and reflect Hird’s goal of providing customers with the most modern, high quality aerial platforms in the UK.

Phil Hird said:

“We are delighted to add these Hinowa lifts to our fleet. The new spider booms deliver excellent performance and have new, advanced features that we know our customers will appreciate. We already have three out on long-term hire, which says a lot about what a good job they do.”

The five machines are all-terrain tracked spider booms, which makes them ideal for customers who need to work at height over landscaped, uneven or unstable ground.

Across the three models, working heights range from 14 metres to 23 metres. Also, all are bi-energy, so can be operated indoors and outdoors.

Hinowa’s philosophy is to offer the simplest, most easy-to-use spider lifts, but to incorporate the latest technological advances to increase working performance and maximise safety.

Features on the Hird machines epitomise that approach. For example, the new IIIS system means the spider lift’s four outrigger arms can be stabilised simply by the touch of one button – though operators can move each outrigger arm manually if required.

The IIIS system is also the first on the market to allow the boom outriggers to be retracted to the stowed position with one touch of a button.

The Hinowa boom lifts have a hydraulic system for widening the low impact tracks, to cope with especially uneven or unstable ground – and can be operated by remote radio or wire control.

Hinowa spider platforms are ideal for working in hard-to-reach areas, either indoors or outdoors. With the stabilising arms stowed, the Hinowa 14.75 IIIS can be reduced to 0.78 metres wide so can be moved through a standard internal door.

Business sectors they are used in include facilities management, building inspection and maintenance, tree management (arboriculture), leisure facilities, hotels, shopping centres and general retail.
Other key performance specifications include:

  • Hinowa 14.75 Gold Lift IIIS – maximum working height 14m, maximum working outreach 7m, lifting capacity 200kg, gross weight 1,700kg
  • Hinowa 17.75 Light Lift IIIS – maximum working height 17.06m, maximum working outreach 7.5m, lifting capacity 230kg,gross weight 2,230kg
  • Hinowa 23.12 Light Lift IIIS – maximum working height 23.2m, maximum outreach 11.4m, lifting capacity 200kg, gross weight 2,990kg
