Attachments for mini cranes – the right tool for the job

Mini cranes are among the most flexible lifting and carrying machines in the workplace, thanks to a wide range of mini crane attachments that allow them to complete jobs faster, more efficiently and more safely.

Long gone are the days when mini cranes can only be used to attached a load to a hook, then lift and move it from A to B. Now, there are mini crane attachments that make mini cranes ideal for many specific tasks in a range of industrial sectors.

Hird mini cranes sales adviser Carl Cooper said:

“It’s all about selecting the right tool for the job. By combining the right mini crane with the right attachment, you create machines that are perfectly set up to do specific tasks.

“You also get the built-in benefits of mini cranes, most notably excellent lift capacity for machines that are highly compact, so can be operated in confined working spaces, and, if they are pick and carry cranes, are highly manoeuvrable.”

Examples of mini crane attachments include vacuum lifters, kerb grabbers, stone slab grabbers, pipe grabbers, forklift attachments, man baskets and mechanical steel plate lifters.

Vacuum lifters attached to mini cranes can be used for lifting, carrying and installing glass sheets or windows. They can also be used for lifting and carrying many other non-porous sheet materials, including stone, plastic, wood and concrete.

Carl Cooper said:

“Using vacuum lifter attachments with mini cranes is becoming commonplace. However, we are demonstrating how fitting pick and carry mini cranes with other attachments satisfies the ‘best tool’ test in many other scenarios.

“For example, I saw a telehandler fitted with a kerb grabber attachment being used to place new kerbs along the central reservation of a dual carriageway the other day.

“I could see, straight away, that the Valla 20 D TRX, a 1.9 tonne tracked diesel mini crane we can supply, fitted with a kerb grabber attachment, would be much better suited to the task.

“As a highly compact mini crane it can operate in a much smaller space, so is safer and, potentially, will cause less traffic disruption. Instead of using a machine that is 5m long, the Valla 20 D TRX is 2.5m long and just 950mm wide.”

As the approved UK and Ireland distributor for Valla, we can supply Valla mini cranes in a range of sizes, from the Valla 20 model up through three tonne, five tonne and 10 tonne Valla pick and carry cranes.

“We are putting the case for their use to a number of clients, for example tool hire companies.

“Many, currently, offer all the equipment used below the hook, such as attachments, lifting chains and slings. By offering mini cranes as well as attachments, they can provide customers with a one-stop service.”
